Plastic is widely used for wrapping briquettes, in order to ensure that they stay dry, as a damp briquette will break up and be unsuitable for burning. The environmental impact of our products is important to us, so we work constantly with our suppliers to improve the sustainability of their packaging by encouraging the use of cardboard in place of plastic wherever possible.

]]> RUF briquettes are a top of the range, extremely dense and very clean hardwood RUF Block. They’re made from pure Oak sawdust which is by-product from a furniture manufacturer. These are the best RUF Briquette we have ever found.

Burning characteristics:

These easy-to-use briquettes give out a steady heat with a nice flame. They burn for around two to four hours depending on airflow and they give off good heat for the duration of their burn time.

Perfect for:

RUF Oak are best used as a ‘heat sink’ in the back of the fire, where they will glow for several hours and help create a really good heart in your fire. Having said that though, many people use RUF Oak as a sole fuel throughout the burn. They are a handy size so they’re excellent on a smaller stove or open fire, but they’re still chunky enough to give a really good burn time.

    • Use recommendations:

When used as bedding in the stall, the wooden pellets are crushed, which forms a soft and bouncy base. Mucking is easy, as the unused wooden pellets fall away, which means that only the dirty bedding is removed.

    Application
    Clean the stall.
    On first use in a standard, approximately 12m2 stall, distribute six to eight bags evenly in each stall.
    Remove horse droppings on a daily basis and wet stains as required, then supplement the bedding.
    Maintenance: Approximately one bag per stall per week.

Pellets can be made from any one of five general categories of biomass: industrial waste and co-products, food waste, agricultural residues, energy crops, and virgin lumber. Wood pellets are the most common type of pellet fuel and are generally made from compacted sawdust and related industrial wastes from the milling of lumber, manufacture of wood products and furniture, and construction. Other industrial waste sources include empty fruit bunches, palm kernel shells, coconut shells, and tree tops and branches discarded during logging operations. So-called “black pellets” are made of biomass, refined to resemble hard coal and were developed to be used in existing coal-fired power plants. Pellets are categorized by their heating value, moisture and ash content, and dimensions. They can be used as fuels for power generation, commercial or residential heating, and cooking. Pellets are extremely dense and can be produced with a low moisture content (below 10%) that allows them to be burned with a very high combustion efficiency.
